라우터는 본체와 LAN 및 WAN Interface, Console Port 등의 하드웨어와 본체내에서 Packet의
전달기능과 라우팅정보 교환기능을 하는 OS로 이루어져 있다.
본체는 전원장치 및 시스템보드가 장착되어 있으며, 시스템보드에는 CPU
및 ROM, Flash ROM, Non-Volitile RAM(NV-RAM), Volitile RAM(RAM)과 같은 메모리등이 장착되어 있다.
일반적으로 비싼 라우터일수록 CPU 성능이 우수하고, 메모리양이 많아 다양한 작업을 빨리 수행할 수 있다.
LAN Interface
로 Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Token-Ring, FDDI와 같은 것이 있다. 그리고 WAN Interface은
Serial Interface라고 많이 불린다. 본체가 큰 경우 Interface Card을 여러개 추가할 수 있는데 작은 경우에는 확장이
불가능한 경우도 있다. 따라서 향후 네트웍이 어떻게 변경될지 고려하여 확장 가능한 라우터 구입여부를 판단해야 한다
다음은 LAN
Interface 1개와 Serial Interface 2개를 가진 라우터를 나타낸 것이다.

LAN Interface 의 형태는 Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Token-Ring, FDDI 등이 있다고
했는데 이책에서는 Ethernet Interface은 e, Token-Ring Interface은 t, FDDI Interface은 fi로
나타내겠다. LAN Interface은 LAN calbe와 직접 연결되거나 AUI Cable 이나 TP Cable등으로 LAN HUB와 같은
장비와 접속되어 시스템들과 데이타를 주고 받는다.
Serial Interface은 V.35 Cable, RS232C Cable등을
이용하여 DCE 장비로 접속된후 전용회선 혹은 공중데이타네트웍과 통신할 수 있는 경로를 제공한다. 따라서 Serial Interface이
V.35나 RS232C 등 어떤 형태의 Cable을 제공하는지 확인하여 그에 적합한 DCE를 구입하여야 한다. 이 책에서는 Serial
Interface을 s로 나타내겠다. Serial Interface에도 2Mbps 대역까지 지원하는 일반 Serial Interface과
2Mbps 이상을 지원하는 high speed Serial Interface이 있다.
Console Port은 직접 터미널을
접속하여 라우터를 조작할 수 있도록 한다. 라우터의 초기 셋업, 장애시 처리등은 모두 Console Port에 터미널을 접속하여
수행한다.
OS는 ROM, Flash ROM에 저장되어 있으며, Configuration 내용은 NVRAM에 저장되어 있다. 이들은
라우터가 부팅된후 RAM으로 읽혀진 다음 작업을 수행하는데, 하드웨어의 성능은 작업수행속도정도에만 영향을 미치나, OS는 어떤 네트웍 프로토콜의
Packet을 전달할지, 어떤 라우팅프로토콜을 지원할지, Packet을 어떻게 제어할 것인지, 그리고 LAN Interface 혹은 Serial
Interface을 어떻게 설정해 이용할 것인지 등 주요 역할을 한다.

라우터의 초기환경을 설정하기 이전에는 라우터로 로그인하려면 Console Port에 터미널을 연결하여야 한다. 처음에
Console Port으로 로그인하면 별도의 비밀번호없이 라우터의 프롬프트를 만날 수 있다. 우리는 프롬프트에서 라우터의 환경을 설정/편집하거나
어떠한 일을 하도록 명령을 내릴 수 있다.
UNIX 시스템에서 시스템의 자원을 제어할 수 없는 이용자모드과 시스템의 자원을 제어할
수 있는 root모드가 있듯이 라우터에도 이용자모드와 운영자모드가 있다. 라우터의 이용자모드에서는 환경설정등은 할 수 없고, 상태 등을 파악할
수 있는 명령어만 사용할 수 있고, 운영자모드에서는 환경 설정을 한다든지 특수한 명령어들을 사용할 수 있다.
CISCO Router
OS의 운영자모드에서는 라우터가 어떤 네트웍 프로토콜을 지원할지, 어떤 라우팅 프로토콜을 지원할지, 혹은 Packet을 어떻게 제어할지 등을
설정할 수 있으며, 또한 LAN Interface이나 Serial Interface 별로 각 환경을 설정해 줄 수 있다.

맨처음에
접속하면 'Router>'라는 프롬프트가 나타나는데 이 상태가 이용자 모드이다. 'enable'이라는 명령어를 입력하면 운영자모드로 들어갈
수 있 는데 그전에 Password를 입력하라고 한다. 운영자모드의 프롬프트는 #이 붙 은 'Router#'라는 것에 유의하자.
그리고
프롬프트에서 'disable'이라는 명령어를 입력하면 이전의 상태로 돌아간다.
위의 상황은 Console
Port로 라우터에 접속했을때인데 telnet과 같은 방법으로 라우터에 접속하면 곧바로 이용자모드로 갈 수 있는 것은 아니다. 이용자 모드로
들어가기 위해서는 비밀번호를 입력하여야 한다. 일반적으로 라우터의 초기환경이 설정된 이후에는 telnet등을 이용하여 접속해 상태를 조회하거나
환경을 변경하는데, telnet으로 라우터에 접속을 하면 비밀번호를 정확히 입력해야 라우터내로 로그인할 수 있다.

그리고 이용자모드와 운영자모드에서는 여러 명령어를 입력할 수 있는데 대개 프롬프트에서 '?'을
입력하면 어떤 명령어를 이용할 수 있는지 알려준다. 이용자모드와 운영자모드에서 사용할 수 있는 명령어는 조금 차이가 있다. '?'를 입력했을
경우 나타나는 설명은 간단하기 때문에 각 명령어를 이용하는 자세한 방법은 라우터 매뉴얼등을 참조해야 한다.

라우터의 상태를 조회하는 명령어는 show
이다. 이용자모드와 운영자모드에서 show로 볼 수 있는 상태는 차이가 있다. 일례로 이용자모드에서 Configuration File은 볼 수
없지만 운영자모드에서는 볼 수 있다. show는 그 자체만으로는 어떤 상태를 조회할 수 없고 뒤에 어떤 상태를 볼 것인지 지정해야 하는데
show 뒤에 ? 을 함께 입력하면 어떤 상태를 볼 수 있는지 알 수 있다.

명령어를
입력할때 한가지 알아두면 편리한 것을 이야기 하겠다. 라우터의 이용자 혹은 운영자모드에서 sh 로 시작하는 명령어는 show 밖에 없다. 이
경우 show라고 모두 입력할 필요가 없다. 그냥 sh만 입력해도 된다.
여기에서는 라우터의 주요 상태를 확인할 수 있는 다음과
같은 show 명령어와 ping, telnet 등에 대해서 알아보겠다.

가. Configuration

라우터를 이용하기 위해서는 Console Port으로 접속한 후 환경을 설정해 주어야 한다. 환경설정은 일반적으로
Configuration File을 수정함으로써 가능한데, 그전에 라우터의 Configuration File이 어떤 상태로 설정되어 있는지
확인해 보아야 한다. Configuration File은 운영자모드에서만 볼 수 있다.
CISCO Router의
Configuration File은 2개가 있는데, 첫번째 것은 NV-RAM에 저장되어 있는 것으로 라우터의 전원이 꺼지더라도 사라지지 않는다.
라우터가 부팅될 때 NV-RAM에 있는 내용을 RAM으로 읽어들인다. 따라서 NV-RAM에 있는 Configuration File을
Startup Configuration File이라고 한다. Startup Configuration File 내용을 확인하는 방법은 다음과 같이
명령을 입력하면 된다. |

두번째 것은 라우터의 RAM에 저장되어 있는 Configuration File이다. 이것을 Running
Configuration File이라고 한다. 라우터가 부팅될 때 라우터는 NV-RAM에서 Startup Configuration File을
읽어 RAM에 저장하므로 방금 부팅된 라우터의 Running Configuration File 의 내용과 Startup Configuration
File의 내용은 같을 것이다. Running Configuration File 내용을 확인하는 방법은 다음과 같은 명령을 입력하면

라우터는 자신이 보유하고 있는 LAN 및 Serial Interface들에 대한 정보를 갖고 있다. Interface 정보는
Interface에 어떤 Address가 할당되었고, 어떤 Datalink Protocol을 이용하는지, 그리고 Inteface가 다른 라우터의
Interface와 접속되어 있을 경우 그 Link가 제대로 작동(up)하고 있는지 등을 보여준다.
만약 아래와 같은 상태로
라우터들이 연결되어 있다고 가정할 때 Router-A는3개의 Interface인 e0, s0, s1에 대한 정보를 갖고 있을

여기에서 serial 이 down 일 경우는 물리적으로 연결을 해주는 회선상에 문제가 있음을 나타내며, line protocol이

protocol이 모두 up 일 경우는 제대로 작동하는 것을 의미한다.

Router-A의 s1과 Router-C의 s0 간의 link가 제대로 작동하는지는 'show interface'라는 명령어를 이용해서
알아낼 수 있는데, serial 과 line protocol이 모두 up이 되어 있다면
Router-A에서 Router-C로
접속할 수 있는지를 조사해 볼 수 있다. Router-A에서 Router-C로 접속할 수 있는지 조사할 수 있는 방법은 telnet과
ping이라는 명령어를 이용하면 된다.
Router-A의 s0의 IP Address가 203.252.3%.5이고 Router-C의
s1의 IP Address가 203.252.3%.6이라고 가정하자. 그렇다면 Router-A에서는 다음과 같이 telnet 명령어 혹은 ping
명령어를 이용하여 Router-C에 접속할 수 있는지 확인할 수 있다. |

telnet은 상대 라우터까지 접속할 수 있는 명령어로 link가 동작한다면 특별한 경우가 아니면 Router-C의 login 프롬프트를
대하게 될 것이다. 이때 Router-C로 로그인할 수 있는 비밀번호를 입력하면 Router-C의 프롬프트를 만나게 되고 그렇지 않으며 로그인
할 수 없다.
ping은 상대 라우터에게 신호를 보내고 그 신호에 응답이 오는지를 조사하는 것으로 응답이 올 경우는 ! 가
나타난다.
따라서 !가 1개도 나타나지 않으면 link는 동작하지 않는 것이다.

| 라. Route |
| |
라우터가 하는 역할중에 가장 중요한 것은 목적지에 대한 Routing Information을 모으고 그중에서 목적지까지 갈 수 있는
최상의 경로를 선택해 packet을 전달하는 것이다. 라우터는 직접 연결되어 있는 라우터들과 Routing Table을 교환하는데 라우터에
직접 접속되어 있는 Network 에 대한 경로는 Routing Table을 주고 받지 않고도 알아낼 수있는 정보중
하나이다.
위 그림에서 Router-A는 Routing Information을 주고 받지 않더라도 Network 1은
e0로, network 2는 s1으로, network 3는 s0 를 통해 접속할 수 있다는 것을 알 수 있다. 그리고 Router-A는
Router-B와 Routing Information을 주고 받아, network 4와 network 5에 대한 경로는 자신의 Interface
e0라는 것을 알게 된다. 이렇게 각 Router는 각각의 Routing Table을 가지고 있는데 이 내용을 확인하려면 다음과 같이 'show
ip route'라는 명령어를 입력하면 될 것이다.

Routing
Table의 항목에 대해서 살펴보자. 맨처음 것은 목적지에 대한 네트웍정보를 어떤 방법으로 얻었는지를 나타낸다. C는 직접 연결되어 있는 것,
R은 RIP으로부터 얻은것, I는 IGRP로부터 얻은 것, O는 OSPF로부터 얻은 것등을 나타낸다.
두번째 항목은 목적지 IP
Network Address이다.
세번째 항목은 [120/2]와 같이 나타나는데 이것은
Administrative-Distance/Cost이다. 120은 RIP의 Administrative Distance이고 2는 Cost 즉
hop count이다. Administratvie Distance와 Cost는 ????에서 언급될 것이다.
네번째 항목은 목적지로
갈 수 있는 인접한 라우터의 IP Address이다.

CISCO Router에서는 초기설정을 위해 운영자모드에서 setup이라는 명령어를 입력하고 물음에 따라 입력을 하면
된다. 다음은 Ethernet Interface와 Serial Inteface가 각각 2개씩 있는 CISCO Router의 Setup 과정으로
Ethernet Interface 2개를 활성화하고 라우터이름과 비밀번호만을 설정하는 과정이다. 이 Setup 과정에 대해서는 특별히 설명하지
않겠다. 이유는 향후에 Interface 설정방법 혹은 Routing Protocol 설정방법등을 알아가면서 저절로 알 수 있을
것이다.

라우터를 초기설정하면 방금 라우터를 부팅한 것과 같이 Startup Configuration File 내용과
Running Configuration File의 내용이 동일하다. 따라서 라우터의 환경설정을 변경하는 방법은 여러가지가 있으나 Running
Configuration File의 내용을 수정한 후 그것을 Startup Configurtion File에 저장하는 방법을 중심으로
알아보겠다.
CISCO Router에서는 환경설정을 위한 여러가지 모드를 제공하는데 그중에서 가장 많이 이용되는 것은 Global
Mode, Interface Mode, Router Mode로 이들 모드로 이동했을 경우 프롬프트 모양은 각각 Router(config)#,
Router(config-if)#, Router(config-router)# 이다.
환경을 설정하려면 우선 운영자 모드로 가서
'config terminal'라고 입력하여 Global Mode로 이동해야 하며, 이곳에서 다른 Configuration Mode로 이동할 수
있다.

Global Mode에서 Interface Mode로 이동하려면 원하는 Interface를 지정하면 된다. 그리고 Global
Mode에서 Router Mode로 이동하려면 Routing Protocol을 선언하면 된다.
그리고 Interface Mode 즉
Router(config-if)#에서 Global Mode 즉 Router(config)#로 돌아가려면 명령어 exit을 입력하면 된다.
나머지도 마찬가지다. 그리고 Global Mode에서 운영자모드로 돌아갈때도 마찬가지다.

다음은 Router에 hostname과 운영자모드 비밀번호를 설정하고, Interface Serial 0의
datalink encapsulation method로 PPP를 설정하는 것을 보인것이다. 그리고 최종적으로 변경결과를 저장하기 위해
Running Configuration File 내용을 Startup Configuration File에 저장하였다.

가. Interface의 IP Address
설정 |

다음과 같이 Router-A와 Router-C를 연결한다고 가정하자. Router-C 측의 IP Address 는 이미
있다고 가정하고 203.252.3%.0 을 Router-A의 Ethernet 측과 Serial Link에 할당해야 된다고 가정하자. 각
Ethernet이나 Serial Link에는 한개씩의 IP Network Address가 할당되어야 하는데 현재 IP Network
Address가 203.252.3%.0 즉 1개 밖에 없으므로 203.252.3%.0을 subnetting하여 여러개의 Subnetwork
Address로 나누어 사용하여야 한다.
Router-A의 Ethernet에는 약 40여개의 시스템이 접속된다고 가정하자. 
이
상황에서는 적어도 Subnet이 2개 필요하고 한개의 Subnet에는 적어도 40개의 시스템이 접속될 수 있어야 하는데, 4.5.2의
Subnet Mask Table을 볼때 이 상황에 적합한 Subnet Mask는 255.255.255.3%2 밖에 없다. 따라서 IP
Network Address 203.252.3%.0에Subnet Mask 255.255.255.3%2를 적용하면 Subnet Network
Address는 다음과 같이 2개가 나온다.

따라서 Ethernet Link에는
Subnet Network Address 인 203.252.3%.64를 할당하고 Router-A의 Ethernet Interface에는
203.252.3%.65를 할당하였다. Serial Link에는 203.252.3%.128 을 할당하고, Router-A의 Serial 0에는
203.252.3%.129를, Router-C의 Serial 1에는 203.252.3%.130을 할당하였다.
따라서 각 Link에 Subnet Network Address를 할당하고 각 Interface에 IP Address를
할당하였으면, 실제로 각 라우터의 Interface에 이것을 반영해 주어야 한다.
일단 Router-A의 Ethernet
Interface와 Serial Interface 0에 IP Address를 설정하는 과정을 보자. Interface에 IP Address를
설정하는 방법은 Interface Configuration Mode에서 다음과 같은 방법으로 입력하면 된다.

| 그리고 Serial Interface에 IP Addres를 설정하면서 DataLink
Protocol (encapsulation)로 설정해 주는데 DataLink를 설정해 주지 않으면 CISCO Router에서는 기본적으로
HDLC를 이용한다. 따라서 DataLink Protocol로 PPP를 이용하고 싶다면 양측 라우터가 동일하게 DatalInk Protocol
을 선언해 주어야 한다.

매우 불편한 일이다. 따라서 이러한 불편을 덜기 위해서 Hostname을 등록하여 활용하면 편리하다. Hostname을 등록하는 방법은 다음과

같이 하면 된다. 그리고 그것을 확인하는 방법은 telnet이라는 명령어와 함께 203.252.3%.130 대신 'Router-C'라는 것을
입력하면 된다. 그러면 동일한 결과를 얻을 수 있을 것이다.
